Private collections, public museums of contemporary art is a course organized by the Helga de Alvear Museum and the University of Extremadura that will take place in the Museum’s auditorium on October 15, 16 and 17, 2021. This course, directed by Professor and director of the Royal Academy of Extremadura, María del Mar Lozano Bartolozzi, and the coordinator of the Museum, María Jesús Ávila Corchero, will address cultural initiatives born from the fusion of public and private, reflecting their importance as a driver of community development.

The program includes, among others, María Dolores Jiménez-Blanco, Professor of Art History at the Complutense University of Madrid and General Director of Fine Arts at the Ministry of Culture; Guillermo Solana, Artistic Director of the Thyssen-Bornemissa Museum; Fátima Sánchez, Executive Director of the Botín Center, the directors of the course and other personalities from the Spanish and Portuguese artistic context. In addition, the course will have the presence of Helga de Alvear herself.

The different presentations allow drawing up new strategies for cooperation between public and private entities, a topical issue whose practical application is already transforming the cultural fabric. The course, which has been possible thanks to the support of the collaborating private companies, is an example of this same cooperation, key to the present and future of culture
