The idea was to invite friends and people close to me to provide a sample of their blood. Asking for someone´s blood requires a high degree of trust on both sides. It is a very symbolically and emotionally loaded gesture. I am aware that working with blood seems to suggest a reference to AIDS, but beyond this troubled association the image of blood assumes its metaphorical richness: intimate exchange, vehicle of life, liquid of generation and regeneration, birth and death, sadness and passion, inheritance and identity. This project extends my research into forms of imprint, which is to say, into the nature of the photographic image as trace. The modus operandi is simple: I give my friends a piece of transparent film and ask them to let their blood drop onto at as they wish. Immediately afterward, I make an enlargement on photographic paper using the blood as a negative -in some cases it has already begun to coagulate; in others it is still moist."
