Historia del objeto

Otra edición de esta obra fue presentada en el Berkeley Art Museum y Pacific Film Archive entre el 24 de abril al 26 de junio de 2005. Formó parte de la retrospectiva dedicada al artista titulada "Slater Bradley: Lifetime Achievement Award" celebrada en The Savannah College of Art and Design, Savannah, Georgia, del 7 de octubre al 5 de noviembre de 2005. Posteriormente ha sido mostrada en el Contemporary Art Museum de St. Louis del 26 de enero al 22 de abril de 2007.

Brock as the ghost of John Bonham, the drummer of Led Zeppelin who died of an overdose in 1980, returns for one last display of the power of stadium rock. Like a vivid dream, the images are sharp; nothing is faded, nothing distorted. The aptly named California Memorial Stadium, capable of holding 70.000+ fans, is, however, empty, as if Brock, embodying the spirit of Bonham, were auditioning for a future lifetime. Something more subtle is also at play as the drummer tears through "When the Levee Breaks" on a vintage blue Ludwig Vistalite, the set made famous by Bonham. Bradley, a native of San Francisco, re-writes "The Play" the famous ending of the 1982 Cal-Stanford football game at the very same stadium, when the Stanford band -ecstatic about an im- minent and unexpected victory - ran onto the field, tubas and trombones in tow, a few ticks too early and allowed Cal to multiple lateral its way to a last second victory. In The Year of the Doppelganger, this scene repeats itself with the roles reserved; the band occupies center stage, and it is the football players - like ghostsw of the Stanford band-Who magically appear with their big, beefy bodies ripping up and down the field and charging upon the lone, skinny drummer".
